I bought this from Black Shuck books based on the picture of Forton Services on the cover (I’d gone there looking for Dirt Upon My Skin by Steve Toase). I ended up reading this first. My favourite stories are: The Derwentwater Shark (because I grew up near there and it is my favourite lake); Stevie’s Duck (because it is absurd – a ghost cat fighting a giant duck – but still horrifying) and The Pennine Tower Restaurant (something horrible going on at Forton Services). A strong theme throughout the stories is fatherhood, SKU captures the love, worries and failures of that job very well. Will check out more of his work soon!
